Wear appropriate PPE (i.e., nitrile gloves, <br />facemask, and protective clothing). Always wash hands with antiseptic soap/solution after handling <br />decedent. <br /> <br />• All bodies must be secured in plastic or vinyl body bag. Secure in such a manner that fluids are contained. <br />Do not damage body when securing. <br /> <br />• Complete logbook entry. Attach a tag or label to the body AND body bag with the following information <br />(deceased name / date of storage / county of origin): To ensure correct and easy identification of the body. <br /> <br /> <br />• Place each body in a separate disaster pouch or in plastic sheeting and tie securely to prevent unwrapping. <br />Securely attach a second tag with the same information stated above to the outside of the sheeting or <br />pouch. SEAL each bag with plastic tag and document “unique identifying number” to ensure chain of <br />custody is not compromised. <br /> <br />• Details of deceased’s name and rack number/placement (top/middle/bottom) are recorded on the mortuary <br />notice board located right outside the cooler in the body storage area. To ensure correct and easy location <br />of the body. <br /> <br /> <br />• At the start of each working day staff will check that correct procedures have been followed for any bodies <br />checked in overnight / weekend. To ensure correct and easy identification and location of the body. <br /> <br /> <br />Release of Remains <br />RELEASE OF BODIES DURING WOKING HOURS (0900-1700hrs Mon-Fri) <br />Bodies will only be released to accredited funeral directors or other appropriate persons instructed by <br />the family. Staff will ensure that any person attending to collect a body is bona fide. To ensure that the <br />body is release to bona fide persons in accordance with the family’s instructions. <br />All necessary paperwork must be completed and in the possession of the staff before the body can be <br />released. 1)Body Release Form. 2)Bodies released for burial require: Infection & Contamination Control <br />Notification Form Bodies released for cremation require: Infection & Contamination Control Notification <br />Form & Cremation Forms (these must be placed in a sealed envelope, with the deceased’s name, shelf <br />number, DOB and the names and addresses of the two doctors who completed the forms written on the <br />front). To ensure those handling the body are informed of any potential infection or contamination risks <br />and to enable cremation to proceed.
