Please briefly describe the proposed program, including an explanation of how it aligns with the Town of <br />Chapel Hill and Carrboro’s Results Framework, and Orange County BOCC Goals and Priorities, and the target <br />population to benefit from the program. (250 words or less) <br />We help residents increase job skills appropriate to the local economy. Each year about <br />75% of our students make progress on federally-recognized literacy tests. Especially for <br />our ESOL students, this increase in language skills increases their ability to apply for, attain <br />and retain local jobs, helping to ensure their economic self-sufficiency. Our students’ <br />improved reading, writing, math and conversation skills give them confidence and a feeling <br />of investment in our community, which helps enable and encourage full civic participation. <br />Further, we have launched a digital literacy program that helps students build technology <br />skills they will need in the workplace as well as in everyday life. We are an essential part of <br />a community network of human services that promotes the well-being of all county <br />residents. <br />8.
