25 1 NAME POSITION TYPE OF EXPIRATION DESCRIPTION APPOINTMENT DATE TERM Jenn Sykes At-Large Partial Term 06/30/2023 An'ail Taylor At-Large First Full Term 09/30/2025 2 3 If the individuals listed above are appointed, the following vacancies remain: POSITION EXPIRATION VACANCY INFORMATION DESIGNATION DATE At-Large 09/30/2025 Vacant since 10/13/2021 Town of Carrboro 06/30/2025 Vacant since 04/07/2022 At-Large 06/30/2025 Vacant since 02/22/2022 Town of Chapel 06/30/2025 Vacant since 01/07/2020 Hill At-Large 06/30/2023 Vacant since 07/11/2022 4 5 Tara May introduced the item. 6 Chair Price suggested Nathalie Volkheimer and Ruby Garcia for two of the vacant 7 positions. 8 Commissioner Bedford agreed with those suggestions 9 Commissioner Greene asked why Jenn Sykes would only be recommended for a partial 10 term. 11 Tara May said she chose the seats at random after receiving the recommendations, and 12 that Jenn Sykes could be appointed to another term. She said that Jenn Sykes would still be 13 eligible for two full terms after the partial term ends. 14 Commissioner Greene said the Human Relations Commission is down a lot of members 15 and that the commission is asking the Board to delay further appointments. She asked about 16 the rationale for keeping the positions vacant. 17 Tara May said she did not know the rationale. 18 Chair Price said there was practice for members to vet applicants and that advisory 19 boards and commissions might be looking for certain demographics. She said that she was 20 looking at the long-term vacancies on the list and she thought the Board should fill the 21 vacancies. 22 Commissioner Bedford said there were good applicants. 23 Commissioner Richards asked about the process for filling town positions. 24 Tara May said towns do not need to put forth recommendations for the seats. 25 Commissioner Richards said it is an important board with a lot of vacancies and that 26 they should be filled. 27 Commissioner Bedford suggested Deborah Baker for the other vacant At-Large position. 28 Commissioner Fowler agreed with the suggestion of Nathalie Volkheimer and Ruby 29 Garcia. 30 The Board agreed by consensus on the recommended applicants, Jenn Sykes and 31 Anjail Taylor, Nathalie Volkheimer for an At-Large position and Ruby Garcia for the Town of 32 Chapel Hill position. 33 Commissioner Bedford suggested Deborah Baker since she comes from the Bingham 34 Township and would be a representative from the county. 35 The Board did not come to a consensus on Deborah Baker for an At-Large position. 36 Commissioner Bedford asked if the Human Relations Commission could spend time with 37 Deborah Baker to see if she would be a good fit for the position.
