4 <br /> 1 <br /> 2 WHEREAS, year to date, Orange County has already experienced significant severe weather <br /> 3 activity to include 35 Severe Thunderstorm Warnings, six Flash Flood Warnings, one Flood <br /> 4 Warning, and one Tornado Warning, and <br /> 5 <br /> 6 WHEREAS, the National Weather Service confirmed an EF-1 tornado with maximum wind <br /> 7 speeds of 105 miles per hour impacted Northern Orange County on May 6, 2022; and, <br /> 8 <br /> 9 WHEREAS, community members can take a few simple steps — creating an emergency supply <br /> 10 kit, making a family disaster plan, and staying informed —to help make preparedness a personal <br /> 11 responsibility and improved health a priority in our community; <br /> 12 <br /> 13 NOW, THEREFORE, we, the Orange County Board of Commissioners, recognize Orange <br /> 14 County Emergency Services - Emergency Management Division, along with emergency <br /> 15 managers throughout the nation, who have collaborated to recognize September as National <br /> 16 Preparedness Month, and the Board joins them in encouraging Orange County residents to stay <br /> 17 informed and prepared; <br /> 18 <br /> 19 FURTHERMORE, the Orange County Board of County Commissioners hereby declares <br /> 20 September 2022 as "Orange County Preparedness Month." <br /> 21 <br /> 22 <br /> 23 This the 6th Day of September 2022. <br /> 24 <br /> 25 <br /> 26 Ren6e Price, Chair <br /> 27 Orange County Board of <br /> 28 Commissioners <br /> 29 <br /> 30 <br /> 31 A motion was made by Commissioner Bedford, seconded by Commissioner Greene, to <br /> 32 approve and authorize the Chair to sign the proclamation. <br /> 33 <br /> 34 VOTE: UNANIMOUS <br /> 35 <br /> 36 Kirby Saunders, Emergency Services Director, said almost five hundred residents have <br /> 37 been certified in basic training. <br /> 38 Chair Price thanked Kirby Saunders for his leadership throughout the pandemic and in <br /> 39 the face of all of the disasters in the county. <br /> 40 <br /> 41 <br /> 42 <br />
