C
VI, Section 6 of the N.C. Constitution provides "[e]very qualified voter in North Carolina who is
21 years of age, except as in this Constitution disqualified, shall be eligible for election by the
people to office.." And, Article VI, Section 8 of the N.C. Constitution disqualifies for office any
person who is not qualified to vote in an election for that office. A qualified voter in an election
district is one who is a resident of (resides in) that district. Therefore the law governing residence
for registration and voting is the same as the law governing residence for office holding.
lsg: F: \I,isa \orangecounty\Response to questions raised at May 5 BOCC mtg. doc
