Artist Description Mike W iley: Acclaimed local NC actor/playwright brings to life <br />historical African-American figures for young audiences. W e chose <br />Mike W iley because we had the joy of hav ing him come a few years <br />ago to perform his "Jackie Robinson" piece and he was so engaging. <br />W e feel his stories are important, relev ant and hav e the ability to <br />expand historical understanding. <br />Number Drummer: A NC musician/artist he uses his skills as a <br />percussionist to engage young audiences in an interactiv e <br />performance exploring math. W e originally had Number Drummer <br />scheduled in spring of 2020, but as the world shut down we were <br />unable to hav e him in the school that year. W e would lov e to <br />reschedule for this upcoming year. <br />Children's Theatre of Charlotte: a theatre company for young <br />audiences exploring original work. W e chose them for this next year <br />because of their newer initiativ e, The Kindness Project, which <br />focuses on original work written around the themes of kindness and <br />empathy. <br />Are you hiring <br />multicultural artists <br />with the requested <br />funds from this <br />grant? <br />Yes <br />For each multicultural <br />artist you intend to <br />hire, please list their <br />name, race, and how <br />much you plan to pay <br />them. <br />Mike W iley is African American and we plan to pay him his requested <br />performance fee of $1250 for "Tired Souls: The Montgomery Bus <br />Boycott". <br />How will the <br />project/program be <br />publicized and <br />promoted to reach <br />intended <br />participants? <br />W e will announce at school and send home flyers with students <br />about the programs the PTA is bringing into the school. Along with <br />announcements in our PTA newsletter, teachers will get updates and <br />any study guide/prep questions leading up to the performances for <br />use in the classroom. <br />How will you <br />evaluate the success <br />of the program? <br />The PTA will send out a feedback form to our teachers and hav e <br />ongoing dialogue about what they liked about the performance for <br />their students and what they'd like to see in the future. Additionally, <br />we check in with the performers to gage how they felt in our <br />community.
