Cirruculum and
Enrichment
W e hav e 3 programs we are hoping to bring in. Mike W iley's "Tired
Souls: The Montgomery Bus Boycott" explores the boycott
surrounding Rosa Parks not giv ing up her seat on the bus in
Montgomery in 1955. This is a 50-minute performance that introduces
audiences to fellow heroes and heroines including Jo Ann Robinson,
Claudette Colv in and others instrumental in the Civ il Rights
Mov ement who changed the course of U.S. history. There is a study
guide for teachers to continue in the classroom along with a
question/answer session after the performance for grades 3-5. Our
second program, Number Drummer, is an interactiv e performance
that utilizes math skills and has been recognized by Yale Univ ersity
as an innov ativ e approach to teaching and brings math curriculum
for grades K-5. Our third program, "A Sick Day for Amos McGee" is
focused on kindness and empathy and is a story that enriches the
perspectiv es of younger audiences (K-2nd) in hopes of grounding
them in kind choices.
Audience Description The demographics of the school population are as follows.
• Approximately 12% of students self-identify as African American.
• Approximately 14% of students self-identify as Hispanic.
• Approximately 19% of students self-identify as Asian and Other
Race.
• Approximately 55% of students self-identify as W hite.
• 29% of the student population qualifies for free or reduced lunch.
• 18% of students use English as a second language.
• 19% of school population is identified as Exceptional Children
including two self-contained classrooms of four children in each
classroom, 54 students with Indiv idual Education Plans, and 26
students with Section 504 Accommodation Plans.
Location Description All Cultural Arts Performances are held in the school’s Gymnasium.
The Gymnasium is accessible through multiple doors and has a
raised stage at one end and flat open floor space in the other. For
"Tired Souls: The Montgomery Bus Boycott" the stage can be utilized
for performance and the students (3rd-5th graders) can be
comfortably seated and spaced on the floor. For Number Drummer,
we can use the entire gymnasium space to set up any percussion
instruments or interactiv e components and hav e the performance in
the round which will accommodate two separate performances on the
same day (K-2nd graders and 3rd-5th graders). For "A Sick Day for
Amos McGee", the stage can be used for the theatre performance
and the audience (K-2nd graders) can comfortably be seated and
spaced on the main floor area.
DocuSign Envelope ID: E7F30E51-08F8-4483-84D9-D991CC281E6E
