Communications Committee <br /> 1. Commissioner, LaBarre <br /> a. Promotion of Community Book Read continues. Consideration for Black <br /> History Month and Pauli Murray Awards being discussed. <br /> b. Will follow-up with Commissioner Harrell regarding any additional <br /> updates. <br /> ii. Board Diversity Committee <br /> 1. Commissioners, Garcia-Turner &Graham <br /> a. Recommondations have been made to the proposed questionnaire for <br /> current Commssion and Board representatives. Will submit questionnaire <br /> to HRC for review and feedback by January 20t", 2022. <br /> i. Interested in accessing data from previous Board applicants and <br /> holding discussion with previous Board members about their <br /> experiences. <br /> iii. Community Board Read Committee <br /> 1. Commissioner, Castillo <br /> a. Caste flyers have been distributed and shared. <br /> b. Awaiting a response from the community facilitators. <br /> c. Greear Webb has agreed to facilitate the youth book read of The Black <br /> Panther Party:A Graphic Novel History <br /> d. Public library has had to order more copies of Caste <br /> e. Committee is working to determine the timeframe for when the youth <br /> read will occur(concurrently or consecutively). <br /> f. Human Rights & Relations (HR&R) staff will submit to have event <br /> promoted through the Daily Tarheel twitter feed. <br /> iv. Pauli Murray Awards Committee <br /> 1. Discussion <br /> a. There has not been a keynote speaker consider or secured at this time. <br /> b. Commissioners will identify speakers that they would like to invite to be a <br /> keynote for the the Awards ceremony and submit their names to the <br /> HR&R staff. <br /> c. HR&R staff will identify the allotted budget for speaker allocation. <br /> VI 1. Other Business/Announcement/Upcoming Events <br /> A. Interim Director, Sharron Hinton <br /> i. GARE team has prsented the the BOCC and other commission meetings to decide on the <br /> finalized racial equity framework. <br /> ii. GARE training sessions will occure on January 131" and January 151". Local Board members <br /> and current Commissioners are welcomed to attend. <br /> VIII. Adjourn <br /> A.
