<br />Program information P a g e 10 o f 23 <br />services that maintain, protect and promote residents’ well-being. The Home Preservation program directly <br />addresses these goals. A safe, stable, and healthy home is an important factor in mental and physical health <br />and in family and community stability. By helping people stay in their homes safely and affordably, the <br />Home Preservation program will directly improve the well-being of 28 households. <br />The Home Preservation program allows homeowners to receive the repairs they need to continue to live <br />safely in their homes and remain rooted in their existing communities. Last year, Habitat completed 83 <br />projects on a total of 25 homes. Habitat focuses projects within specific neighborhoods throughout Orange <br />County, including Northside in Chapel Hill and Fairview in Hillsborough. Our program helps protect our most <br />vulnerable neighbors from displacement. Last year, 96% of homeowners served identified as Black or <br />African American. The average age of a homeowner was 74 years old, 60% lived alone, and 56% had a <br />disability present in the home. At the time of repair, program recipients had lived on average 43 years in <br />their homes – some homes had been in the family for generations. In addition, the program served nine <br />veteran households last year. <br /> <br />8.
