Most recent <br />examples: Incan Princess of Tawantinsuyu, portrait of an Incan <br />Princess with graphic representing Tawantinsuyu culture. Brown Elfin <br />Butterfly at Occoneechee Mountain, a landscape featuring the <br />mountain and a butterfly that, absent in the surrounding area, only <br />exists in the cooler climate of the mountain, A W orld of Discov ery: <br />portraits of a div erse group of fiv e scientists. I will arriv e with an idea <br />for the project, but, without exception, the input from the teachers <br />always makes the idea much better. <br />I will create art for mosaic project and prepare paper templates to use <br />in transferring the piece onto clay. Ov er two weeks in the classroom I <br />will teach the kids about the science inv olv ed in ceramics (creation of <br />the clay in nature, sourcing of the clay, ceramic process, glazing and <br />firings), kids will create tiles, apply layers of decoration including an <br />abstract painting, culminating in the kids transferring a segment of <br />the larger art and painting it. I will then apply a clear glaze and fire the <br />tiles and mount the tiles on wood panels that will then be installed at <br />the school. <br />I am incredibly proud of this work, out of all the teaching I hav e done I <br />feel like this is among the most meaningful, I would v ery much like to <br />scale up these projects and create a larger work ov er a longer <br />residency, this is my aim in applying for this grant.
