Artist Experience Since 2016, LEVEL has dev oted itself to being a creativ e oasis in <br />Chapel Hill for artists of all disciplines. Thanks to prev ious support <br />from OCAC Artist Project Grants, we hav e hosted four v isiting artists- <br />in-residence as well as three local artists during the onset of the <br />pandemic in 2020-2021. W e hav e also welcomed experimental <br />filmmakers Kelly Sears and Ben Pender-Cudlip, UNC and Carolina <br />Performing Arts fellow Robin Frohardt, Duke/UNC v isiting professor <br />Jace Clayton (aka DJ /rupture), v isual reconstructionist Jill Moffett, <br />and Paint it Orange plein air artists Rose Kennedy and Katharine <br />March. <br />W ith our tenth and most recent artist-in-residence, sTo Len, we <br />hosted an artist talk on the rooftop of Attic 506 (similar to what we <br />hav e planned for Caroline Kern) on March 25, 2022. This ev ent <br />garnered enthusiastic praise from a crowd of ov er 40 local artists and <br />art lov ers, as well as the tenants of Attic 506 itself – an experience <br />we’re excited to replicate. Other past LEVEL-hosted ev ents hav e <br />included community walks, gallery shows, workshops, and <br />collaborations with local art organizations such as The ArtsCenter, <br />UNC’s Arts Ev erywhere, Peel Gallery, Cat’s Cradle, and the Downtown <br />Partnership of Chapel Hill. <br />Caroline Kern, aka Caroline Paquita (1998-2021), is a multi- <br />disciplinary artist liv ing and working in NYC. Her work currently <br />rev olv es around Risograph printing, illustration, experimental v ideo, <br />and machine tufting. Founded in 2011 after self publishing since <br />1996, she is the sole proprietress of Pegacorn Press, which is a <br />feminist, queer, “total-art-freaker,” publishing adv enture.
