Artist Experience Joe Troop is an experienced artiv ist and social activ ist and a well- <br />known GRAMMY-nominated musician. In 2020 he was commissioned <br />by RuralOrganizing.org to create a song that he called “A Plea for the <br />US Gov ernment to Fully Fund the US Postal Serv ice.” <br />He performed the song at a protest in Greensboro and, due to liv e <br />social media footage, quickly garnered 20,000 v iews. <br />RuralOrganizing.org launched a petition using Troop’s song that <br />generated ov er 427,000 signatures and 30,000 letters to members of <br />Senate. <br />Troop was also the host of Pickin’ for Progress. In partnership with <br />VoteNC.org, Pickin’ For Progress aired fifteen episodes during 2020, <br />as Troop trav eled through North Carolina highlighting important <br />progressiv e v oices and aiming to increase v oter turnout during a <br />piv otal US election cycle. The docuseries featured interv iews with <br />artists, politicians, activ ists, community leaders and stakeholders <br />from across the state of North Carolina. <br />Other “artiv ist” work includes writing a song and recording a music <br />v ideo on behalf of Dreama Caldwell to raise awareness of her <br />situation and the injustice of cash bail, releasing a documentary <br />series with musician and founder of Farm Labor Organizing <br />Committee Baldemar Velásquez, and working in the Borderlands to <br />play music with and teach English to children. <br />In addition to all his experience as an artiv ist working with community <br />organizers, he is also a GRAMMY-nominated musician and <br />bandleader of former Che Apalache. <br />How do you plan to <br />market your project? <br />Using all collaborators' networks. Printed flyers, free Spectrum media, <br />listings on all local cultural calendars, Ev entbrite, press release sent <br />to local media, social media - including Facebook ev ent and groups, <br />Reddit communities, Instagram posts, Tweets, and some paid <br />adv ertising.
