He said for next year's budget cycle, <br /> 10 he will be asking for a 90-10% split between Durham and Orange County, respectively, to fund <br /> 11 this position. He said that the first cohort of the 911 Academy began this past week and will go <br /> 12 for eight weeks. He said there will be a second cohort in August. He said the $27,000 over three <br /> 13 years supports upgraded software for 911 centers, including video and text capabilities. He said <br /> 14 they have also seen the need for a sworn police officer at the Orange County campus and are <br /> 15 requesting $25,000 for that position. <br /> 16 Commissioner Fowler asked how many students utilized the Durham Tech Promise last <br /> 17 year. <br /> 18 President Buxton said 156 over two years. <br /> 19 Commissioner Fowler said it sounds like about 75 people are being covered per year. <br /> 20 President Buxton said 156 includes the total number of people from Orange County that <br /> 21 are using the Durham Tech Promise in a given year. He said they may have started in different <br /> 22 years, but 156 is the total number. <br /> 23 Commissioner Fowler asked if the Board gave $200,000 last year as well. <br /> 24 President Buxton said yes. <br /> 25 Commissioner Fowler asked what happens to funds that are contributed but not utilized. <br /> 26 Andy Kleitsch said the funds come out of the county's Article 46 fund and whatever is <br /> 27 not used stays in that fund. He explained that Durham Tech invoices the county for the number <br /> 28 of people that utilize the funds. <br /> 29 Commissioner Bedford thanked Durham Tech staff for the tour of the Orange County <br /> 30 campus earlier in the year. She asked if they hired a small business coordinator. <br />
