Article 6: Development Standards 120 <br /> Section 6.15:Soil Erosion and Sedimentation Contro1268F <br /> (a) Any artificial watercourse (where the need is demonstrated) shall be <br /> designed considering soil type so that the velocity of flow is low enough <br /> to prevent accelerated erosion. <br /> (8) Buffer Area Requirements <br /> (a) Soil and pollutants carried over land, primarily from roads, trails, and/or <br /> land-disturbing activities, can be effectively trapped by leaving a <br /> relatively undisturbed strip of vegetation parallel and adjacent to the <br /> watercourse. <br /> (b) Properly managed overland water flo).vfl^°stormwater runoff can be directed <br /> into this buffer area in a manner that will reduce velocity and cause <br /> dispersion of the watg stormwater runoff. Sediments carried by the watgr <br /> stormwater runoff will settle out as a result of this slowing and dispersion <br /> process. <br /> (c) The width of these buffer areas shall depend on the type of stream or <br /> drainage area and shall be determined as follows: <br /> (i) Creeks and tributaries - (i.e., permanent streams flowing directly <br /> into a water supply reservoir within University Lake, Cane Creek, <br /> and Upper Eno Watersheds and permanent streams flowing into <br /> such streams). <br /> a. Measure along a line running perpendicular to the edge <br /> of the floodplain 50 feet from the edge of the floodplain <br /> plus an additional distance equal to: 4 x slope x 100. <br /> b. If no floodplain has been demarcated, measure along a <br /> line running perpendicular to the center of the <br /> watercourse. Measure the 50 feet from the edge of the <br /> water. <br /> C. "Slope" is expressed as a percentage derived by dividing <br /> the rise in elevation between the floodplain boundary line <br /> (or centerline of the watercourse per above) and a point <br /> 100 feet from that point along the above described <br /> perpendicular line, by 100. <br /> (ii) Intermittent streams flowing into creeks and tributaries. <br /> a. Measure along a line running perpendicular to the <br /> centerline of the intermittent stream 50 feet from such <br /> stream centerline. <br /> (iii) Intermittent streams flowing directly into water supply reservoirs <br /> within University Lake, Cane Creek, and Upper Eno Watersheds. <br /> a. Measure along a line running perpendicular to the <br /> centerline of the intermittent stream 100 feet from such <br /> stream centerline. <br /> (iv) Intermittent streams flowing into streams which flow directly into <br /> water supply reservoirs within University Lake, Cane Creek, and <br /> Upper Eno Watersheds. <br /> a. Measure along a line running perpendicular to the <br /> centerline of the intermittent stream 50 feet from such <br /> stream centerlines. <br /> (v) Water supply reservoirs within University Lake, Cane Creek, and <br /> Upper Eno Watersheds. <br /> Orange County, North Carolina— Unified Development Ordinance Page 6-130 <br />
