Agency’s Purpose/Mission (no more than a few sentences): <br />Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Triangle’s mission is to create and support one-to-one <br />mentoring relationships that ignite the power and promise of youth. Our vision is that all <br />youth achieve their full potential. We partner with parents and guardians, volunteers, and <br />community members to give our youth aspirations, greater confidence, better <br />relationships, educational success, and tools to avoid risky behaviors. <br /> <br />3. Please provide a brief description of your organization’s past achievements in carrying out similar <br />projects and evidence of successful record of meeting proposed budgets and timetables (no more than <br />100 words). For over 100 years, our national organization has remained true to its <br />founders’ vision of bringing caring role models into the lives of children. We are the <br />oldest and most respected mentoring agency in the country. As a local affiliate for the <br />past 23 years, prior to the pandemic we consistently met goals and stayed on schedule. <br />We continuously work to diversify our funding and put over 80% directly towards <br />programming. <br /> <br />4. Living Wage: Does this agency pay permanent employees a minimum living wage? (Yes / No) Yes <br /> <br />If yes, is this agency an Orange County Living Wage Certified Employer? No <br /> <br />If no, please briefly explain. <br />The agency just completed a compensation review and adjusted all salaries to meet <br />the living wage qualifications. We have not gone through the certification process with <br />Orange County Living Wage. <br /> <br /> Schedule of Positions: # of FTE – Full-Time Paid Positions: 10 # of FTE – Part-Time Paid Positions: 2 <br />NEW THIS YEAR <br />Consistent with our commitment to equity and inclusion, the Towns of Chapel Hill and Carrboro and <br />Orange County Government are taking steps together to center racial equity in the Human Services <br />Funding Program. Over the course of the next year, the Towns and County will conduct a comprehensive <br />racial-equity analysis of the program and we are requesting basic information about your organization’s <br />racial equity work. <br /> <br />a. Please describe how you have involved the intended beneficiaries of the proposed project <br />in the planning and design process (in 100 words or less). <br />BBBST involves the youth throughout the entire process of our program. Youth <br />must want to be part of the program to be involved, are asked their <br />preferences, and must approve their mentor before being matched. We train <br />our mentors to build development assets in youth to empower them to ignite <br />their potential. Throughout the match our staff speak to each kid monthly and <br />ask about their interests, goals, and any activity ideas they would like the <br />agency to host.
