Program informationPage 13 of 30

b. How has your organization incorporated racial equity goals into your organizational goals?

It is a strategic objective of the Museum to increase the diversity of our visiting public. We strive to serve
guests of multiple races and ethnicities, and are working towards making a space that welcomes people of
color, assisting them with feeling more comfortable with visiting the museum, and taking ownership of the
displays exhibited. We are doing this through creating special exhibits that mirror the community and actively
showcasing items, stories, and art by people of color, and in the permanent exhibit by noting historical
experiences of multiple races. Additionally, our programming doesn’t just include people of color presenting,
but also allows us to gauge what certain demographics may want to see and engage with through feedback.
Written into our five year plan is the goal of serving and representing ALL members of Orange County.

c. Please fill in the below questions and provide any additional context on the racial
composition of the organization and board leadership:

i. % of staff that are Black, Indigenous, or People of Color (BIPOC) : 0
ii. % of board that are BIPOC: 29%
iii. % of staff that have attended racial equity training: 0
d. Please describe any additional activities your organization is doing to address racial equity.

PROGRAM INFORMATION
*Please submit for each program if applying for funding for more than one program.

6. Please briefly describe the proposed program, including an explanation of how it aligns with the Town of
Chapel Hill and Carrboro’s Results Framework, and Orange County BOCC Goals and Priorities, and the target
population to benefit from the program. (250 words or less)
The Museum will design and present free exhibits to engage and educate the public about the
dynamic history of Orange County. Programs, events, tours, and a variety of educational offerings
will provide further learning opportunities for the public, through which the museum will strive to
promote diversity and life‐long learning. The Museum will also continue to collaborate with other
nonprofits and County entities, including the Alliance for Historic Hillsborough, Burwell School,
Hillsborough Garden Club, the Hillsborough Arts Council, the Chapel Hill Historical Society, and
Orange County schools to integrate and coordinate programs and events and provide meaningful
learning experiences. Starting in 2022, the Museum will be developing and installing a family and
child‐centered gallery space which will create additional learning opportunities targeted to serve
Pre‐K through upper elementary school aged children in order to better foster positive educational
outcomes and engage young audiences with Orange County history.

DocuSign Envelope ID: 5AAC61C4-23A4-4ADC-A331-E65EC6A2C579
