Detailed information related to each <br /> recommendation is include in the remainder of this report: <br /> i <br /> The levels outlined in the current School <br /> Construction Standards are adequate. <br /> Student Capacity (page 15) • Elementary—600 students <br /> • Middle—700 students <br /> • High — 1,000 to 1,500 students <br /> Mobile unit seating should not add to the <br /> permanent seating capacity of a school <br /> Use of Mobile Units (page 17) Instead, the capacity of a mobile unit <br /> should serve as a temporary buffer during <br /> construction of new facilities. <br /> Membership provides the most realistic <br /> picture of the actual number of students <br /> attending schools. This method accounts <br /> Best Practice for Determining Current for new student enrollees as well as those <br /> Students (page 21) no longer attending class. The Task Force <br /> agreed that student membership on the <br /> second month (fortieth day of school) each <br /> year should be the base number to use in <br /> planning for future school facilities. <br /> The Task Force agreed that it is important <br /> to distinguish between the projected <br /> number of students used in planning for <br /> annual current expense budgets and the <br /> number used for planning for future capital <br /> facilities. <br /> Using a compilation of methods for <br /> Methodologies to Use in Projecting Future projecting future students is an important <br /> Students (page 23) consideration in making the most accurate <br /> projections. Three readily available <br /> methods that are recommended are: <br /> • State Department of Instruction Model <br /> • School Impact/Student Generation <br /> Report <br /> • Orange County Planning Department <br /> Model <br /> • Cohort Survival Method <br /> 10 <br />
