Short Term and Long Term High School Planning Considerations <br /> During the past year, there has been extensive discussion about the need for additional high <br /> school space within the Chapel Hill-Carrboro system, while at the same time construction has <br /> been underway on the new Cedar Ridge High School in the Orange County system. The <br /> Chairs and Vice-Chairs of the BOCC and two school boards have had preliminary discussion <br /> about a proposal included by the County Manager in the County's recommended 2002-2012 <br /> CIP that would lead to the formation of a short duration work group to examine both the short- <br /> term and long-term implications of planning for additional high school space. A conceptual <br /> outline for that work group and other communication about the need for high school space are <br /> included for discussion by the three boards. <br /> As discussions continue on potential high school sites and planning for the Chapel Hill <br /> Township Park and Educational Campus, there are a number of different committees whose <br /> work has implications for overall planning of a high school and that campus. The work group <br /> proposed by the County Manager could serve as a clearinghouse for information developed by <br /> these various committees. Staff will provide a handout at the meeting Monday night that <br /> reviews proposed timetables for the park and a proposed high school, the inter-relationships <br />
