10 As stated, the project was also bid as a multi prime project. The comparative cost of the multi prime bids is $10,869,500. The single prime contract has a small premium of $51,750. This represents less than half a percent higher cost but is outweighed by the coordination and control benefits associated with a single prime project. The architects and Facilities Management believe that a single contractor will bring value to the process by simplifying decision-making and response time. As we work with the Town of Chapel Hill and the developers, East West Partners, these attributes will be very beneficial in controlling costs and maintaining schedule. The construction bid submitted by The Resolute Building Co. includes 11.5% minority participation. This represents a high minority participation rate compared to other major projects bid by the district in recent years. Additionally, the contractor is responsible to provide documentation regarding the efforts used to solicit minority contractors and the actual contractors who will participate in the work. The project bid includes upgrades and work that will be reimbursed by the Town of Chapel Hill and East West Partners. The Town will provide $750,000 to upgrade the multi purpose room to a community gymnasium and East West Partners is providing $824,052 to construct the Town play fields and associated amenities.
