<br />076200.4 – FLASHING AND SHEET METAL <br /> <br />Project Manual for Whitted Building Roof Replacement <br />Orange County, Hillsborough, NC <br />Prepared by Atlas Engineering, Inc., 551-A Pylon Drive – Raleigh, NC 27606 <br />May 2022 <br /> <br /> <br />PART 3 EXECUTION <br /> <br />3.01 SURFACE CONDITIONS AND PREPARATION <br /> <br />A. Examine the areas and conditions under which work of this section will be performed. Correct <br />conditions detrimental to timely and proper completion of Work. Inspect nailer areas to verify that <br />they are clean, smooth, free of depressions, waves, or projections and solidly supported over joints. <br /> <br />B. Remove existing substrates as required for proper flashing installation. <br /> <br />C. Beginning installation shall constitute acceptance of the existing conditions by Contractor. <br /> <br />D. Confirm complete installation of wood blocking, insulation, plywood, and flashing membrane details <br />prior to the start of metal flashing installation. <br /> <br />3.02 FABRICATION <br /> <br />A. General: Fabricate sheet metal copings and flashings to comply with design details shown and <br />general recommendations as provided in the latest editions of SMACNA. <br /> <br />B. Field-verity site conditions prior to fabricating work. <br /> <br />C. Form flashings to provide weathertight or watertight installations as specified. Allow for proper <br />expansion and contraction. No exposed fasteners will be allowed unless specifically shown on the <br />detail drawings. <br /> <br />D. Confirm compatibility of flashing materials with those that will be flashed and in direct contact <br />with such materials. Prevent contact between dissimilar metals to prevent galvanic action. If <br />contact cannot be avoided, use preventive measures to provide adequate separation. <br /> <br />E. Form flashings to profiles shown on approved shop drawing details. Form sections square, true and <br />accurate to size, free from distortion and other defects detrimental to appearance and performance. <br /> <br />F. Form sections in maximum ten-foot lengths. Hem exposed edges of flashings 1/2" on underside. <br />Fabricate corners so that joints near roof perimeter corners are at least 18" away from corner. <br /> <br />G. At locations where new sheet metal sections abut walls or terminate, the metal flashing shall be <br />fabricated to terminate with end sections of one-piece construction. <br /> <br />H. Crimp metal as necessary to prevent metal from touching membrane. Do not scratch finish. <br /> <br />3.03 INSPECTION AND SURFACE PREPARATION <br /> <br />A.
