<br />075400.5 – THERMOPLASTIC SINGLE-PLY ROOF SYSTEM <br /> <br />Project Manual for Whitted Building Roof Replacement <br />Orange County, Hillsborough, NC <br />Prepared by Atlas Engineering, Inc., 551-A Pylon Drive – Raleigh, NC 27606 <br />May 2022 <br /> <br />fastening. Foam core shall have a flame spread of 25 or less per ASTM E-108 and shall have a <br />minimum density of 2 pcf. Compressive strength shall be 20 psi minimum in accordance with <br />ASTM D1621. Board insulation shall conform to ASTM 1289, Type II, Class 1, Grade 2. Base <br />layer insulation for all Roof Areas shall be 2″ thick. Additional layer of polyisocyanurate insulation <br />on Roof Area C shall be 2” thick. Tapered insulation for Roof Areas D, E, and F shall be 1/4″ per <br />foot with a 2″ minimum thickness. Total thickness on Roof Areas A and B shall be 2″ at the edge <br />of the sump/gutter. Total thickness on Roof Areas C, D, E, and F shall be 4″ at the edge of the <br />sump/gutter. The saddles/crickets shall be 1/2″ per foot tapered insulation. The base and fill <br />insulation may be 4′x8′ and the tapered insulation shall be 4′x4′. <br /> <br />D. Coverboard (Install over saddles/crickets): Shall be a non-structural, fire-rated, fiberglass-faced <br />gypsum product with a silicone-treated, water-resistant gypsum core. Shall have factory-laminated <br />fiberglass surface mats, front and back. Overlayment shall be factory-primed. Thickness of <br />overlayment shall be 1/2″. Board shall meet or exceed the requirements of ASTM C1177 and ASTM <br />D3273. Board shall have a flame spread of 0 and smoke developed rating of 0 in accordance with <br />ASTM E84. Board shall be specifically designed for use in roof assemblies and shall be approved by <br />the roof membrane manufacturer. Maximum board size of 4'x4' for adhered applications. <br /> <br />E. Adhesive for coverboard attachment: Provide low-rise polyurethane adhesive specifically designed <br />for bonding specified cover board to roof insulation. Adhesive shall be pre-approved by the roof <br />system manufacturer for use with the proposed system, insulation, and existing deck conditions. <br />Adhesion testing will be required. <br /> <br />F. Fasteners and Plates: Shall be corrosion-resistant, 14-10 heavy duty all-purpose screw or nail-in <br />fastener with low profile head and minimum 2.5″ diameter galvanized steel, or AZ 55 galvalume stress <br />plate. Fasteners shall be carbon steel, coated to resist corrosion in accordance with FM4470. Fastener <br />and plate shall be Factory Mutual approved for use together. Fasteners must be intended for securement <br />of insulation into a wood and metal deck and be approved for use with the intended insulation and by <br />the membrane system manufacturer. Fastener shall be of sufficient length to penetrate through the <br />required layers of insulation/coverboard and into the top of the deck a minimum of 1.25″ and a <br />maximum of 2″ unless otherwise required by the fastener manufacturer. Pull out testing of the fastener <br />into the decks will be required for final confirmation of fastener spacing and pattern. <br /> <br />G. Tapered Edge Strips: Closed-cell polyisocyanurate rigid insulation with foam core and factory <br />laminated fiberglass facers acceptable for installation by mechanical fastening. Foam core shall <br />have a flame spread of 25 or less per ASTM E-108 and shall have a minimum density of 2 pcf. <br />Compressive strength shall be 20 psi minimum in accordance with ASTM D1621. Thickness shall <br />be 0″-1.5″ <br /> <br />2.02 ROOF MEMBRANE AND ACCESSORIES <br /> <br />A. Membrane: Roof membrane shall be a thermoplastic polymeric single-ply polyvinyl chloride <br />(PVC) or ketone ethylene ester (KEE) membrane with fiberglass or polyester reinforcement, <br />meeting ASTM D4434 (PVC) or D6754 (KEE) and the technical membrane properties specified. <br />The membrane shall be acceptable for adhered applications. Membrane color will be confirmed <br />during the pre-job submittal process.
