P a g e 21 o f 2 3
Criterion 5 - Local Economic Development

32. How many Orange County
residents are employed by your
organization?
Of TAC’s permanent staff, (14 total) 72% reside in Orange County.
As the largest non-profit arts organization in Orange County, TAC
is the largest employer of Orange County artists.
33. What percent of project
materials will be purchased
from sources within Orange
County or North Carolina?
EVOKE plans include using regionally sourced building materials
with recycled content.
34. Please describe any other
aspect of your project that is
relevant to local economic
development.
Since its inception in 1974, The ArtsCenter has grown from a
single painting class to an all-inclusive visual and performing arts
and arts education center, offering a multitude of programs. The
ArtsCenter moved to its current location at 300 East Main St. in
Carrboro, in 1987, into what was formally a Piggly Wiggly with
20,000 sq. ft. of transformable space. Though the years, TAC has
adapted this space to meet the everchanging needs of the
community. Today The ArtsCenter is not only the largest arts
organization in Orange County, providing 100,000 arts
experiences to NC residents each year but also the largest
employer of Orange County artists. The ArtsCenter exists to
educate and inspire artistic creativity and to enrich the lives of
people of all ages and therefore, has become a true community
center. With diverse and inclusive programing, TAC makes art
experiences available to the whole community both in their
theaters and classrooms and through their outreach into local
schools and organizations. As TAC space is aging, they embrace
the plans to open a new ArtsCenter, directly down the road at
303 Jones Ferry Road. This new building will allow TAC to expand
their programs to including cutting edge technology which will
empower both artists and art students to grow their talents in
profound ways. Many of these technologies are not available to
the general public and can only be accessed through an affiliation
with a college, university or private business. This new building
will ensure TAC’s place in this community as an economic engine
that generates not only quality arts experiences but also is
responsible for millions of dollars of local economic impact each
year.
DocuSign Envelope ID: FC54AC26-7897-4270-8EA1-D754CD59EA76
