P a g e 12 o f 2 3
American.

TAC’s Artist in Residence program provides culturally competent arts
experiences to over 2,800 students in classrooms across Orange County
at no cost to families. Through TAC’s partnership with the Orange
County School district, they provide a 5-day in-classroom residency and
a school field trip for a live performance to students at all four Title 1
Elementary Schools (New Hope, Central, Efland-Cheeks and Grady
Brown Elementary Schools). For the Artist in Residence program for
2020-2021, the students served were 40% white, 35% Hispanic, 17%
black, 6% multi-racial, 2% Asian and less than 1% are Native American
and Pacific Islander. Over half of the students served are on free or
reduced lunch. The performing artists that participated in the
residencies and the school shows for the 2020-2021 school year were
57% black, 29% white and 14% Hispanic.

TAC’s 5-year partnership with the Family Success Alliance, provides
Ready For K classes for children unfamiliar with in-person classroom
settings. These youth are taught to use creative problem solving,
building confidence to set them up for success in a traditional
classroom. Over 70% of the students are not native English speakers and
99% are non-white.

TAC’s year round ArtSchool is the largest resource in Orange County for
learners of all ages to explore their creative capacity, offering instruction
in various art forms from ceramics to digital arts. From teenagers to the
elderly, all residents can take a class regardless of financial capacity or
ability.

Also, what are the demographics of the area where your project takes
place?

Carrboro is a highly dense, urban town. The average age is 33. The
population is 73.7 % White, 10.98% Black, 9,44% Asian, 6.5% Hispanic
and 4.22 % multi-racial

Does your project help to address any racial disparities in the location
it is proposed for?

Currently, The ArtsCenter is located on East Main Street in Carrboro. The
future site of their new home is located next to one of Carrboro’s
historically Black neighborhood; Lincoln Park and is adjacent to what is
considered the LatinX hub of Carrboro. The ArtsCenter has always been
a year-round, seven days a week arts home where people come
together to enjoy and participate in music, dance, theater, the fine arts,
and the intersection between these disciplines. The new site plans
provide the organization congregational space to truly connect with
their neighbors, and flourish as a community center for the arts.
