P a g e 14 o f 19

Cost Per Unit of Impact
Other Unit of Impact: Please describe here
Cost Per Unit of Impact
(Please feel free to add rows if necessary to show any additional units of impact.)
24. Please describe any avoided
financial costs or savings
related to the project and over
what period of time those
costs will be avoided/reduced:
Composting reduces waste in the Town’s waste stream. The
Town has discussed reducing greenhouse gas emissions and fuel
costs by transitioning to an every-other-week garbage pickup
model. In order to avoid exceeding vehicle weight requirements
on an every-other-week pickup schedule, the Town must
increase diversion of waste from the waste stream. Providing this
composting service will help make this model more feasible as a
future option for the Town.
25. Does your project accelerate or
expand on existing programs
that already show positive
impact?
The grant funding will help ensure that an established program
with positive impacts can continue.
26. Does your project also take
advantage of other funding
sources?
Yes, Orange County provides funding for the food waste bin
pickup and tipping fees.
27. Would your proposed project
help you to take advantage of
funding from other sources
besides this grant in the
future?
The program has seen increased participation each year, showing
success in diverting organic material from the waste stream. The
program’s success should help to make it more competitive
when applying to funding sources in the future.
28. Please describe any other
aspect of your project that is
relevant to the efficient use of
grant funds:

Criterion 4 - Capacity of Applicant

29. Please describe any projects
that you have completed
successfully in the past which
are similar to the project you
are proposing:
The food waste drop-off has been an established program for
five years at the Carrboro Farmers’ Market. Since its inception,
the program has seen increased participation and now serves 150
Orange County residents weekly.
30. If you are proposing to
collaborate with other
organizations on this project,
please briefly describe their
relevant experience to the
project and/or the target
population:
Orange County Solid Waste Management has experience
operating several food waste drop-off sites and providing
composting education. In addition to the Carrboro Farmers’
Market, Orange County Solid Waste Management operates four
additional locations for food waste collection:
Eubanks Rd. Waste and Recycling Center
Walnut Grove Church Rd. Waste and Recycling Center
DocuSign Envelope ID: 925D6FBC-24A8-425B-8158-E760CA6EAD2A
