Fossil fuels would be burned <br />during waste collection from residences and commercial sites <br />and also during transport of the garbage to a transfer station in <br />Durham, NC, a 44-mile round-trip. Fossil fuels are also burned <br />as the waste is transported from the transfer station to the <br />Sampson County Disposal landfill in Roseboro, NC, a 195-mile <br />round-trip. The food waste would then release methane as it <br />decomposes in the landfill. <br />23.
