During and after
the project, what
will your
continued
engagement with
the community
be?
Orange County Solid Waste Management plans to develop specific education
and outreach activities that integrate with the food waste collection service.
The County’s Solid Waste and Recycling Education and Outreach
coordinator will provide these activities on-site during select weeks of the
Farmers’ Market. In addition, Town of Carrboro staff plan to expand
composting outreach as well in conjunction with sales of backyard and
kitchen composting bins. The Town also plans to engage with the community
to increase composting efforts through a new initiative called the Green
Neighborhoods Grant Program, which will provide funding to Carrboro
residents to complete projects related to climate action.
The Town conducted a climate action survey in 2019 in order to obtain
information about backyard composting, gardening, commuting, and food
choices in Carrboro. The Town plans to re-administer the survey biennially in
order to continue to collect information about composting rates. The Town
can utilize the survey to help residents learn the benefits of composting.
19.
