1 <br /> ORANGE COUNTY <br /> BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br /> ACTION AGENDA ITEM ABSTRACT <br /> Meeting Date: June 21, 2022 <br /> Action Agenda <br /> Item No. 8-o <br /> SUBJECT: Approval of Senior Lunch Caterer Contract <br /> DEPARTMENT: Aging <br /> ATTACHMENT(S): INFORMATION CONTACT: <br /> Janice Tyler, 919-245-4255 <br /> PURPOSE: To approve a food service caterer contract to provide noon meals for the Home and <br /> Community Care Block Grant-funded Senior Lunch Program at the Seymour and Passmore <br /> Centers for the period July 5, 2022 to June 30, 2023. <br /> BACKGROUND: The Orange County Department on Aging's Lunch program provides a <br /> nutritious noon meal to persons age 60+. A request for proposals was issued by Orange County <br /> Purchasing in April 2022 for a caterer to provide the meals for FY 2022-23, with an option of a <br /> one year renewal. The bid selected was from Rymackees Cafe and Caterer, LLC. The cost per <br /> meal will remain at the current rate of $7.00 per meal. With this contract the total cost of meals <br /> purchased will not exceed $245,000. <br /> FINANCIAL IMPACT: The majority of the cost for the Senior Lunch Program is reimbursed by <br /> the NC Division of Aging and Adult Services. The balance of the funding is provided by Orange <br /> County and the Towns of Carrboro and Chapel Hill. These funds are included in the FY2022-23 <br /> operating budget. Donations are also collected from the participants. <br /> SOCIAL JUSTICE IMPACT: The following Orange County Social Justice Goal is applicable to <br /> this item: <br /> • GOAL: ENSURE ECONOMIC SELF-SUFFICIENCY <br /> The creation and preservation of infrastructure, policies, programs and funding necessary <br /> for residents to provide shelter, food, clothing and medical care for themselves and their <br /> dependents. <br /> The purpose of this program is to provide a nutritious noon meal to persons age 60+, targeting <br /> those individuals who are in the greatest social and economic need. <br />
