12 <br /> 1 WHEREAS, the early years of a child's life from birth to age five is the most critical time in a <br /> 2 child's development in which the brain's architecture is built and early learning sets the <br /> 3 trajectory for future success; and <br /> 4 <br /> 5 WHEREAS, our child care community provides critical care and education opportunities for <br /> 6 Orange County's young children, as well as support for social and emotional development; and <br /> 7 <br /> 8 WHEREAS, our child care community provides enrichment opportunities and nurtures <br /> 9 development for children of all backgrounds; and <br /> 10 <br /> 11 WHEREAS, our child care providers form a vital building block of our local economy supporting <br /> 12 Orange County's families as they work; and <br /> 13 <br /> 14 WHEREAS, the COVID-19 pandemic has created tremendous hardship for child care providers <br /> 15 and the families of Orange County who depend on them, who have continued to meet the needs <br /> 16 of families while risking their health and financial stability to remain open; and <br /> 17 <br /> 18 WHEREAS, our future depends on the quality of the early childhood experiences provided to <br /> 19 young children today; support for high-quality child care represents a worthy commitment to our <br /> 20 children's future; <br /> 21 <br /> 22 NOW, THEREFORE, we, the Orange County Board of Commissioners, hereby proclaim May 6, <br /> 23 2022, as Provider Appreciation Day, affirming the important role our child care community plays <br /> 24 in support of our young children, their families, and our local economy, and urge all residents of <br /> 25 Orange County to recognize child care providers for their work. <br /> 26 <br /> 27 This the 3rd day of May 2022. <br /> 28 <br /> 29 <br /> 30 Renee Price, Chair <br /> 31 Orange County Board of Commissioners <br /> 32 <br /> 33 A motion was made by Commissioner Richards, seconded by Commissioner Hamilton, <br /> 34 to approve the proclamation and authorize the Chair to sign it. <br /> 35 <br /> 36 VOTE: UNANIMOUS <br /> 37 <br /> 38 Commissioner Richards introduced Robin Pullver of the Partnership for Children. <br /> 39 Robin Pullver said thanked the Board for approving the proclamation and for <br /> 40 Commissioner Richards for introducing it. She said she appreciates the recognition of the <br /> 41 Board of the important role that frontline essential child care workers play in the the support, <br /> 42 care, and education of young children, their families, the county's work force and economy. She <br /> 43 said the child care community is truly the backbone of the county. <br /> 44 Chair Price said she appreciates the work they do and the importance of their work. She <br /> 45 said there needs to be more investment into early child care, because of the importance of care <br /> 46 and education at the beginning of a child's life. <br /> 47 Commissioner Richards said she thought it was fitting that it is an annual celebration the <br /> 48 Friday before Mother's Day. She said the date was appropriate for the work that child care <br /> 49 providers do to support mothers and working families. She said she couldn't not have survived <br /> 50 without good child care. <br />
