An age-friendly community should have: *- _ .. •° - <br /> • Public gathering spaces that are pleasant,clean, <br /> and safe,with low noise levels and appropriate <br /> lighting; " <br /> ty�- x <br /> • Usable green spaces and walkways, adequate <br /> outdoor seating for people who may need to sit . Traffic rules and regulations that consider <br /> and rest, and public restrooms; pedestrians; <br /> • Sidewalks and roads that are well-maintained . Some public spaces close to services;and <br /> and safe for pedestrians, drivers,and cyclists; <br /> • Accessible buildings. <br /> Goal 1:Optimize the usability of outdoor spaces and buildings for older adults. <br /> INDICATORSOBJECTIVE 1.1 <br /> STRATEGY 1.1.1 <br /> .O <br /> 1.1.1a At least one dedicated space for an older adult age 55+(or representative of OCDOA,OC Department of Environment,Agriculture, <br /> older adults)is on every county and town Advisory Board that has input on Parks,and Recreation(DEAPR),Board of County <br /> outdoor spaces and buildings. Commissioners(BOCC),Town of Chapel Hill(CH),Town of <br /> Carrboro(CARR),Town of Hillsborough(HILLS),Town of <br /> Mebane <br /> 1.1.1.b Other non-municipal and non-profit trail owners/groups are invited to join the OCDOA <br /> MAP Outdoor Spaces workgroup. <br /> 1.1.1c Older adults are educated on how to access information about participating OCDOA,OC DEAPR,Town of CH,Town of CARR,Town of <br /> in local government planning and are encouraged to contribute to meetings/ HILLS,Town of Mebane,OC Library <br /> hearings about outdoor spaces and buildings. <br /> 1.1.1d Interactive strategies are developed to solicit input from older adults,with OCDOA,Town of CH,Town of CARR,Town of HILLS,Town <br /> emphasis on racially diverse community members,regarding parks,outdoor of Mebane, <br /> spaces,and community development needs. <br /> Orange County Master Aging Plan 23 <br />
