April 27, 2022
To: Valarie Schwartz, Public Relations
From: Laurie Paolicelli, Director, Chapel Hill/Orange County Visitors Bureau
Re: 2022/23 Disability Guide for area Restaurants/Hotels
Thank you for taking the time to meet with me earlier this month to discuss a project with the Visitors
Bureau that would begin in May 2022 and continue through the calendar year.
Project scope:
Disability guide: Collect, verify, and edit a comprehensive listing of Orange County restaurants’ disability
and access information. The purpose of this guide is to provide details on restaurants (and hotels) ability
to accommodate those guests in a wheelchair and with special accessibility needs.
Although hotels are up to date with handicapped information, restaurants live in a “gray area” in which
they are legally ADA accessible, but the range varies from business to business.
Val, it’s vital that those in wheelchairs know what they can expect when visiting Orange County
restaurants.
As we discussed in our meeting, the Visitors Bureau has received criticism for not having this
information available. As you can see in the most recent ADA list, we simply indicate that a restaurant is
ADA accessible.
This is not enough information.
Through our partnership, you would be expected to gather and confirm details shown here:
Exhibit 1
DocuSign Envelope ID: C91CBC16-495D-4832-812B-E650985A3B1B
