17 <br /> 1 The Board discussed appointments to the Advisory Board on Aging. <br /> 2 <br /> 3 BACKGROUND: The Advisory Board on Aging suggests policy and makes recommendations <br /> 4 to the Board of Commissioners and the Department on Aging while acting as the liaison <br /> 5 between the older residents of the County and the County government. It is charged with <br /> 6 promoting needed services, programs and funding that impacts the older residents. <br /> 7 <br /> 8 The Board of County Commissioners appoints all twelve (12) members. <br /> 9 <br /> 10 The following individuals are recommended for Board consideration: <br /> NAME SPECIAL TYPE OF EXPIRATION <br /> REPRESENTATIVE APPOINTMENT DATE <br /> TERM <br /> Dr. Heather At-Large One Year Extension 06/30/2023 <br /> Altman <br /> Vibeke Talley At-Large Second Full Term 06/30/2025 <br /> Lucinda Poole At-Large Partial Term 06/30/2023 <br /> 11 <br /> 12 If the individuals listed above are appointed, the following vacancies remain: <br /> POSITION EXPIRATION VACANCY INFORMATION <br /> DESIGNATION DATE <br /> At-Large 06/30/2024 Vacant since 03/21/2019 <br /> At-Large 06/30/2022 Vacant since 07/01/2019 <br /> 13 <br /> 14 Tara May introduced the item. <br /> 15 The commissioners agreed by consensus on the recommended applicants. <br /> 16 Commissioner Bedford asked about the vacancies on the board. <br /> 17 Tara May said that the board is attempting to recruit from different communities to <br /> 18 improve diversity on the board. <br /> 19 Commissioner Fowler asked about the two applicants that did not receive a <br /> 20 recommendation. <br /> 21 Tara May said that the advisory board wanted more time to recruit for those vacancies. <br /> 22 Commissioner Fowler described some of the attributes of one of the applicants, Sandy <br /> 23 Walker. She said she had recruited Ms. Walker to apply. She said she was ok waiting if the <br /> 24 board wanted more time. <br /> 25 Commissioner Bedford said she thought they should put Ms. Walker forward. <br /> 26 Chair Price said she thought they should respect the advisory board's request to wait to <br /> 27 recruit more applicants. <br /> 28 Chair Price asked for a show of hands for recommending Sandy Walker. <br /> 29 The commissioners agreed by consensus recommending Sandy Walker for a vacant <br /> 30 position. <br /> 31 <br /> 32 <br /> 33 4. Alcoholic Beverage Control Board —Appointment Discussion <br /> 34 The Board discussed an appointment to the Alcoholic Beverage Control Board. <br /> 35 <br /> 36 BACKGROUND: The Alcoholic Beverage Control Board has the authority to buy, sell, transport <br /> 37 and possess alcoholic beverages for the operation of its stores. This board also adopts rules <br /> 38 for the ABC system and has the authority to hire and dismiss employees. <br /> 39 <br />
