that resonates with residents not familiar with these principles. This is
evident through the number of state-funded education-focused programs
that ERS has been a part of (see Collaborators section). Additionally,
ERS is familiar with local vendors in Orange County and will use these
connections to purchase materials for the retrofits.

Thirdly, the project team’s relationships with community and other
groups in Orange County will be valuable for organizing the workshop
that will educate residents on the benefits of energy efficiency. This
workshop will involve a cohort of groups including the local community
action agency Central Piedmont Community Action, a representative to
discuss Duke Energy programs and energy efficiency contractors to
ensure that residents know about the energy efficiency options available
to them. It is the existing connections that local groups in Orange County
already have with residents that will be key to promoting and validating
the energy education events. These events along with the dissemination
of educational materials will ensure impact well beyond just the residents
who receive retrofits.

Criterion 1 - Social Justice and Racial Equity

14. Who will directly or indirectly
benefit from your project?
Please be as specific as possible
on the characteristics of those
who will benefit including,
gender, race, age, income level
and geographic location.

Also, what are the
demographics of the area
where your project takes
place?

Does your project help to
address any racial disparities in
the location it is proposed for?

Please list any data sources
used and show the steps of any
The direct beneficiaries of the project will be the residents in the
neighborhood of focus for this project. These are the homes that will be
considered for energy retrofits that will result in lower energy bills,
healthier homes, and more stabilized communities. The residents who do
not receive retrofits will still benefit from receiving energy conservation
education through the project’s community workshop, Shadowing Day,
and promotion of energy efficiency resources. Educating residents on
energy conservation may also result in lower bills and healthier homes,
albeit likely on a smaller scale compared to the retrofits.

DocuSign Envelope ID: 05316BF7-95C7-4D54-82D9-7EBD5926DA4D
