Thirdly, “financial savings through energy
efficiency” for the community is specifically mentioned as a strategy to
help achieve measures outlined in the Plan.

Specific recommendations in the Plan related to this project include:
● Community Integration Recommendation #1: Create Grass Roots
Partnerships to Engage Community
● Community Integration Recommendation #6: Facilitate Low Cost
Financing for Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy Projects
● Community Integration Recommendation #7: Integrate Climate
Action and Social/Equity Initiatives
● Buildings Recommendation #1: 50% Challenge
● Buildings Recommendation #2: Energy Audit/Performance
Rating

Collaborators and Partners

In some projects, collaborators and partners provide essential capacity and connections. If collaborators
or partners are an essential part of your project whether or not they are receiving grant funds, please
use this section to provide more details. If you are not working with collaborators or partners, please
feel free to write N/A in this section and move to the Social Justice and Racial Equity section.
13. Please describe one to three
key partnerships/collaborations
that add the most value to the
success of the proposed
project:
Key to this project is the partnership between the community organizer,
resident Tamara Sanders, and the residents in her Carrboro neighborhood.
This historically-Black and -disadvantaged neighborhood was where the
origination of the project idea took place (see Question 19 for more
details) and will be the focus for energy retrofits and energy education
events. The project will lean on the community organizer’s ability to raise
awareness of the program to the neighborhood, build rapport with
residents, help identify homes that would generate the most impacts from
retrofits, and identify new opportunities for promoting energy
conservation. Tamara’s strategy will involve door-to-door canvassing and
information gathering to determine ideal methods of communication with
each resident. In the parts of the neighborhood where she doesn’t have an
established history she will rely more on the existing relationships
between the residents to gather information and distribute resources. Her
goal is to remove any communication barriers for residents wanting to be
included in the programs and she is committed to being personally
available and creating a personalized experience for each resident who
receives a retrofit.

Second, the skills and engagement abilities of ERS will be critical to
ensuring impactful retrofits and meaningful educational experiences for
the resident. ERS has a history of working with the other key project
team members and has demonstrated a comprehensive knowledge of
whole-house energy efficiency and an ability to communicate it in a way
DocuSign Envelope ID: 05316BF7-95C7-4D54-82D9-7EBD5926DA4D
