6
Public Involvement:
To facilitate a public process in the plan's development, OCTS staff will advertise the June
public meeting. OCTS will follow up with additional advertisements for the 30-day public
comment period in starting in September along with the Public Hearing notice for October. The
public meeting will involve a presentation of the plan and a question/answer session for the
attendees. OCTS staff will collect all comments and include them in the plan appendix. In
addition to soliciting public comments, OCTS staff will also solicit comments from specific
agencies that might have an interest in the plan, including but not limited to:
• Orange County Department on Aging;
• Orange County Department of Social Services;
• Orange County Department of Housing, Human Rights and Community Development;
• Alliance of Disability Advocates; and
• Project Compassion
Federal law requires a public hearing for the ADA plan. The public hearing for the plan is
scheduled for October 2022, prior to the BOCC's action.
NEXT STEPS: The ADA plan, after being approved by the BOCC, will be forwarded for review
and approval to agencies that require the plan for grant eligibility, such as NCDOT and the
Federal Transit Administration. Once approved by those agencies, the plan will be published
as the County's official ADA plan and implemented accordingly before any service
improvements begin.
RECOMMENDATIONS: The Staff recommends the OUTBoard:
1. Receive the presentation
2. Provide recommendations on the plan update
