52 <br /> RES-2015-016 <br /> ORANGE COUNTY BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS <br /> A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE ORANGE PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION AMERICANS WITH <br /> DISABILITIES ACT (ADA) PARATRANSIT PLAN <br /> WHEREAS, the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) was passed by Congress and signed into law <br /> by the President in July 1990; and <br /> WHEREAS, the ADA prohibits discrimination against persons with disabilities in employment, housing <br /> and transportation; and <br /> WHEREAS, the ADA's intent is to ensure equal opportunity for persons with disabilities to access <br /> public accommodations, public services, telecommunications and transportation; and <br /> WHEREAS, to comply with the ADA, Orange Public Transportation is required to provide paratransit <br /> service to those persons with disabilities who are unable to use or access the fixed-route transit <br /> system; and <br /> WHEREAS, the North Carolina Department of Transportation and U.S. Department of Transportation <br /> require public transit operators providing fixed-route service to submit complementary paratransit <br /> plans and annual updates to the Federal Transit Administration; and <br /> WHEREAS, Orange Public Transportation will be expanding fixed-route service considerably over the <br /> coming year necessitating a need to develop and adopt a major update to its ADA paratransit plan <br /> with an updated service plan and service area. <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Orange County Board of Commissioners that the <br /> Board approves and adopts the 2015 Orange Public Transportation ADA Paratransit Plan. <br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Orange County Board of Commissioners authorizes the <br /> Orange County Transportation Planner to submit the 2015 Orange Public Transportation ADA <br /> Paratransit Plan to the North Carolina Department of Transportation and Federal Transit <br /> Administration. <br /> Upon motion of Commissioner seconded by Commissioner <br /> the foregoing resolution was adopted this the 17th day of March, 2015. <br /> I, Donna Baker, Clerk to the Board of Commissioners for the County of Orange, North Carolina, DO <br /> HEREBY CERTIFY that the foregoing is a true copy of so much of the proceedings of said Board at a <br /> meeting held on March 17, 2015, as relates in any way to the adoption of the foregoing and that said <br /> proceedings are recorded in the minutes of said Board. <br /> WITNESS my hand and the seal of said County, this day of 15. <br /> a <br /> *� , <br /> :- �1 l� <br /> � 4bf <br /> Cle@ to the Bo d of Commissioners 17 <br />
