1 <br /> ORANGE COUNTY <br /> BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br /> ACTION AGENDA ITEM ABSTRACT <br /> Meeting Date: May 3, 2022 <br /> Action Agenda <br /> Item No. 8-i <br /> SUBJECT: Contract Extension with New River Tire Recycling, Inc. <br /> DEPARTMENT: Solid Waste <br /> ATTACHMENT(S): INFORMATION CONTACT: <br /> Contract Amendment Robert Williams, 919-918-4904 <br /> PURPOSE: To approve and authorize the County Manager to sign a contract extension with New <br /> River Tire Recycling, Inc. for the loading, transport, and recycling/disposal of scrap tires. <br /> BACKGROUND: Orange County currently has a contract with New River Tire for the recycling <br /> of scrap tires with an option to renew for two additional three-year periods. <br /> Orange County issued a Request for Proposals in March 2022 for tire recycling and received no <br /> responses. New River has agreed to a renewal of the contract. <br /> FINANCIAL IMPACT: The financial impact will include the costs of recycling tires, estimated to <br /> be $250,000 per year. <br /> SOCIAL JUSTICE IMPACT: There is no Orange County Social Justice Goal impact associated <br /> with this item. <br /> ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT: The following Orange County Environmental Responsibility Goal <br /> impact is applicable to this item: <br /> • ENERGY EFFICIENCY AND WASTE REDUCTION <br /> Initiate policies and programs that: 1) conserve energy; 2) reduce resource consumption; <br /> 3) increase the use of recycled and renewable resources; and 4) minimize waste stream <br /> impacts on the environment. <br /> RECOMMENDATION(S): The Manager recommends that the Board approve and authorize the <br /> Manager to sign the Contract amendment with New River Tire. <br />
