Attachment 1 <br /> 1 <br /> 1 DRAFT MINUTES <br /> 2 ORANGE COUNTY <br /> 3 BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br /> 4 BUSINESS MEETING <br /> 5 April 5, 2022 <br /> 6 7:00 p.m. <br /> 7 <br /> 8 The Orange County Board of Commissioners met for a Business Meeting on Tuesday, April <br /> 9 5, 2022 at 7:00 p.m. at the Whitted Human Services Center in Hillsborough, NC. <br /> 10 <br /> 11 COUNTY COMMISSIONERS PRESENT: Chair Renee Price, Vice Chair Jamezetta Bedford, <br /> 12 and Commissioners Amy Fowler, Sally Greene, Jean Hamilton, Earl McKee, and Anna <br /> 13 Richards <br /> 14 COUNTY COMMISSIONERS ABSENT: None <br /> 15 COUNTY ATTORNEYS PRESENT: John Roberts <br /> 16 COUNTY STAFF PRESENT: County Manager Bonnie Hammersley, Deputy County Manager <br /> 17 Travis Myren, and Clerk to the Board Laura Jensen. (All other staff members will be identified <br /> 18 appropriately below) <br /> 19 <br /> 20 Chair Price called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. <br /> 21 <br /> 22 1. Additions or Changes to the Agenda <br /> 23 Bonnie Hammersley proposed removing items 6-a and 6-b from the agenda and <br /> 24 delaying discussion until staff can conduct further research and analysis. She indicated 6-a will <br /> 25 be brought back on May 3, 2022, and 6-b may be back as early as April 26, 2022. <br /> 26 Chair Price said one of the reasons for the delay of item 6-b is so the Towns have an <br /> 27 opportunity to review the plan. <br /> 28 <br /> 29 Chair Price dispensed with reading the public charge. <br /> 30 <br /> 31 2. Public Comments (Limited to One Hour) <br /> 32 a. Matters not on the Printed Agenda <br /> 33 None. <br /> 34 <br /> 35 b. Matters on the Printed Agenda <br /> 36 (These matters will be considered when the Board addresses that item on the agenda below.) <br /> 37 <br /> 38 3. Announcements, Petitions and Comments by Board Members <br /> 39 Commissioner Hamilton said she attended a Community Block party of the Gaines <br /> 40 Chapel Community on Saturday, April 2, 2022. She thanked county staff from Environmental <br /> 41 Health, Animal Services, and other departments that provided information to event attendees. <br /> 42 She said she talked to residents in the area who are concerned about safe water and sewer. <br /> 43 She also shared that she visited some Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools and Orange County <br /> 44 Schools. She said that she was dismayed to see the conditions in some of the older schools <br /> 45 and highlighted the need for the community to pull together and provide safe schools for <br /> 46 children. <br /> 47 Commissioner Greene congratulated the University of North Carolina men's basketball <br /> 48 team and Coach Hubert Davis for a great season. <br /> 49 Commissioner Bedford had no announcements. <br /> 50 Commissioner Fowler echoed Commissioner Fowler's congratulations. She said the <br /> 51 Climate Council will participate in Carrboro's Earth Day event on Saturday, April 23, 2022 from <br />
