P a g e 18 o f 2 3
Criterion 5 - Local Economic Development
30. If you are proposing to
collaborate with other
organizations on this project,
please briefly describe their
relevant experience to the
project and/or the target
population:
Orange County Solid Waste will continue to pay for the collection
and composting of food waste. They have promoted and
supported the diversion of food waste from landfills for 21 years.
In addition to their financial support, they will continue to provide
technical assistance as needed.
Orange County Solid Waste contracts with Brooks Contractors’
Food Waste Program. They have been helping to divert food
waste from the landfill since 1999. They provide bins, pick up the
collected food waste and turn it into rich compost at their
industrial composting site in Goldston, NC. They provide the
community a sustainable place to divert their food/organic waste
and create a finished product (compost) that brings resilience to
the soil and allows it to capture and store more carbon.
31. Please describe any other
relevant expertise or capacity
to carry out the project in your
application:
The management staff at the ERFM runs a highly successful
Farmers’ Market and is much respected and appreciated by the
Market customers for their organizational skills, interpersonal
skills, community outreach and knowledge and promotion of local
sustainable agriculture and other sustainability practices (i.e.
composting, regenerative farming).

32. How many Orange County
residents are employed by your
organization?
3 currently
This grant would allow for the hiring of 2 additional part -
time employees.
33. What percent of project
materials will be purchased
from sources within Orange
County or North Carolina?
N/A
34. Please describe any other
aspect of your project that is
relevant to local economic
development.
The presence of the Community Collection Site brings more
customers to the ERFM, which in turn increases sales for
local farmers and other local vendors. As more people learn
about the collection site this number will increase.
DocuSign Envelope ID: AFC9D9B8-B7DD-46DF-8603-54762363FD20
