She said to the east those are <br /> 2 New Hope Creek, Morgan Creek, Cane Creek, and Back Creek that flow into the Cape Fear <br /> 3 River system. She said that in the North ,the Eno and Little Rivers flow into the Neuse River <br /> 4 system. She said that in the south, Hyco and Lynch Creek flow north into the Roanoke River <br /> 5 system. She said that there is joy to celebrate access to clean water and sanitation. She <br /> 6 thanked the Board again for passing the resolution. She noted there will be an event at <br /> 7 Northgate Park in Durham on March 26th for the public to attend. <br /> 8 Chair Price invited Wesley Poole to speak on upcoming events. <br /> 9 Wesley Poole, Water Resource Coordinator for Orange County, reviewed the upcoming <br /> 10 events listed in the background information for the item. He noted that there will be a stream <br /> 11 cleanup Friday, March 18th hosted by the Planning and Inspections Department and the <br /> 12 Department of Environment, Agriculture, Parks and Recreation. <br /> 13 <br /> 14 c. Resolution in Support of Ukraine <br /> 15 The Board considered approving a Resolution expressing support for Ukraine. <br /> 16 <br /> 17 BACKGROUND: On February 24, 2022, Russia invaded the country of Ukraine. This invasion <br /> 18 has received significant response from across the globe, with many countries taking political, <br /> 19 financial and other actions to express support for Ukraine, as well as voicing opposition to <br /> 20 Russia's military invasion and its threat to the people of Ukraine, the remainder of Europe, and <br /> 21 the world in total. <br /> 22 <br /> 23 On March 8, 2022, the Carrboro Town Council adopted a resolution in support of Ukraine. The <br /> 24 attached draft resolution provides a similar opportunity for the Orange County Board of <br /> 25 Commissioners to express its support for Ukraine. <br /> 26 <br /> 27 Chair Price reviewed the background information for the item. She asked if any <br /> 28 Commissioners had comments or changes. <br /> 29 Chair Price asked if the resolution needed to be read into the record. <br /> 30 Laura Jensen answered yes. <br /> 31 <br /> 32 Commissioner Fowler read the following resolution: <br /> 33 <br /> 34 ORANGE COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br /> 35 <br /> 36 RESOLUTION IN SOLIDARITY WITH UKRAINE IN OPPOSITION TO THE RUSSIAN <br /> 37 INVASION, ASSAULT AND ATROCITIES AGAINST THE UKRAINIAN PEOPLE <br /> 38 <br /> 39 WHEREAS, Orange County is a peace-loving community that advocates human rights and the <br /> 40 well-being of all people; and <br /> 41 <br /> 42 WHEREAS, the people of Orange County oppose tyranny, unprovoked aggression and war; <br /> 43 and <br /> 44 <br /> 45 WHEREAS, North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper issued Executive Order No. 251 condemning <br /> 46 and responding to Russia's invasion of Ukraine; and <br /> 47 <br /> 48 WHEREAS, Orange County stands in solidarity with Ukrainian sovereignty and her territorial <br /> 49 integrity as an independent and democratic Ukraine, and with the Ukrainian people as they <br /> 50 resist Russian aggression, military invasion and the threat to their existence; and <br /> 51 <br />
