1 <br /> ORANGE COUNTY <br /> BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br /> ACTION AGENDA ITEM ABSTRACT <br /> Meeting Date: April 26, 2022 <br /> Action Agenda <br /> Item No. 6-b <br /> SUBJECT: Proposal to Name a Conference Room at the Orange County Visitors Center as <br /> "The Lee Pavao Conference Room" <br /> DEPARTMENT: County Manager <br /> ATTACHMENT(S): INFORMATION CONTACT: <br /> 1) Letter Requesting Consideration Bonnie Hammersley, 919-245-2306 <br /> 2) Letters of Support <br /> 3) Orange County Naming Policy <br /> PURPOSE: To discuss naming a Conference Room in the Orange County Visitors <br /> Center to "The Lee Pavao Conference Room". <br /> BACKGROUND: A number of community leaders (letters attached) have requested that <br /> the Board of Orange County Commissioners consider naming a conference room in honor <br /> of the late Lee Pavao. <br /> Lee Pavao was a well-respected resident of the Orange County community for many <br /> years. <br /> Lee Pavao served for eight years as an elected official on the Chapel Hill Town Council, <br /> including two years as Mayor Pro-Tem. <br /> Lee Pavao worked closely with Orange County leaders, the Board of County <br /> Commissioners and Visitors Bureau, the Seymour Center, and many Orange County staff <br /> on community related projects. <br /> Lee Pavao was a champion of economic development and tourism, and worked closely <br /> with Orange County and Chapel Hill to establish a welcome center with associated <br /> programs. <br /> In 2012, Lee Pavao received a standing ovation when he became a recipient of the Order <br /> of the Long Leaf Pine award for his 30 years of volunteer service in Orange County. <br />
