Attachment 2 <br /> 1 <br /> 1 MINUTES <br /> 2 ORANGE COUNTY <br /> 3 BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br /> 4 VIRTUAL LEGISLATIVE BREAKFAST <br /> 5 March 21, 2022 <br /> 6 8:30 a.m. <br /> 7 <br /> 8 The Orange County Board of Commissioners met for a virtual breakfast meeting with the <br /> 9 Orange County Legislative Delegation on Monday, March 21, 2022 at 8:30 a.m. <br /> 10 <br /> 11 COUNTY COMMISSIONERS PRESENT: Chair Renee Price, Vice Chair Jamezetta Bedford, <br /> 12 and Commissioners Amy Fowler (arrived at 9:10 a.m.), Sally Greene, Jean Hamilton, and <br /> 13 Anna Richards <br /> 14 COUNTY COMMISSIONERS ABSENT: Commissioner Earl McKee <br /> 15 COUNTY ATTORNEYS PRESENT: John Roberts <br /> 16 COUNTY STAFF PRESENT: County Manager Bonnie Hammersley, Deputy County Manager <br /> 17 Travis Myren, Clerk to the Board Laura Jensen, and Assistant to Manager for Legislative <br /> 18 Affairs Greg Wilder (All other staff members will be identified appropriately below) <br /> 19 LEGISLATIVE DELEGATION PRESENT: Representative Verla Insko, Representative Graig <br /> 20 Meyer, and Senator Valerie Foushee (arrived at 8:39 a.m.) <br /> 21 <br /> 22 Chair Price called the meeting to order at 8:35 a.m. <br /> 23 <br /> 24 Due to current public health concerns, the Board of Commissioners is conducting a <br /> 25 Virtual Legislative Breakfast on March 21, 2022 utilizing Zoom. Members of the Board of <br /> 26 Commissioners will be participating in the meeting remotely. As in prior meetings, members of <br /> 27 the public will be able to view and listen to the meeting via live streaming video at <br /> 28 orangecountync.gov/967/Meeting-Videos and on Orange County Gov-TV on channels 1301 or <br /> 29 97.6 (Spectrum Cable). <br /> 30 <br /> 31 A roll call of the County Commissioners was called; all members were present except for <br /> 32 Commissioner Fowler and Commissioner McKee. <br /> 33 <br /> 34 Chair Price welcomed the legislative delegation. She noted that it was the last time that <br /> 35 the current legislative delegation will be together with the commissioners. <br /> 36 The Board of County Commissioners introduced themselves and welcomed the <br /> 37 Representatives. <br /> 38 <br /> 39 Senator Valerie Foushee arrived at 8:39 a.m. <br /> 40 <br /> 41 Chair Price invited the legislative delegation to introduce themselves. <br /> 42 Representative Meyer said they were on a break from the longest long session in <br /> 43 General Assembly history. He said the upcoming session is expected to be short. He said they <br /> 44 anticipate making amendments to the budget that don't affect tax policy and will not be <br /> 45 controversial. He said there is discussion of major legislation including Medicaid expansion <br /> 46 and legalization of medical marijuana. He said it is not clear if it will proceed or not. <br /> 47 Representative Insko said she would be in office until after the May primary. She said <br /> 48 she has learned a lot from the position. She said government is complex and you keep <br /> 49 learning. She said in order to be effective you have to dig into the issues. She said she was <br /> 50 looking forward to traveling. <br />
