ORANGE COUNTY <br />BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br />ACTION AGENDA ITEM ABSTRACT <br />Meeting Date: February 5, 2002 <br />Action AgenIf <br />Item No. <br />SUBJECT: Health department Agreements with CHCCS and OCS for School Nurses <br />DEPARTMENT: Health PUBLIC HEARING: (YIN) No <br />ATTACHMENT(S): INFORMATION CONTACT: <br />Rosemary Summery, a#.2011 <br />Agreements <br />TELEPHONE NUMBERS: <br />Hillsborough 7328181 <br />Chapel Hill 968-0501 <br />Durham 6884331 <br />Mebane 336-2274!031 <br />PURPOSE: To approve the Health Departments Agreements with Chapel Hill-Carrbom City <br />Schools (CHCCS) act Orange County Schools (GCS) for school nurse funding. <br />BACKGROUND: During the budget deliberations last year, the Scats of Commissioners <br />agreed In a four-year plan for achieving a goal of a full-time school nurse In every public school <br />in bath the Chapel Hill-Oamarm City Schools system and Orange County Schools system. The <br />funds appmpdaled for flscal year 2001-2002 were to support one additional full-time nurse in <br />Orange County Schools, two additional full-time nurses in Chapel HIII-Capboro City Schools, <br />and their associated operating expenses. <br />The agreements are woman to allow the school systems fo use the entire amount of funds for <br />salary supped, wit an assurance that the system will provide appropriate equipment and <br />supplies. <br />Nurses have been hired and are functioning in bet systems <br />FINANCIAL IMPACT: The total cost of the agreements is $115,726 and was authorized in the <br />approved budget for the year. <br />RECOMMENDATION(S): The Manager recommends that the Board approve to agreements <br />and authorize the Chair to sign.
