Belts shall be constructed of reinforced cord and rubber. 10
11
The drive shall be rated for the motor horsepower indicated on the Drawings, plus the recommended 12
ANSI/RMA service factor (but, not less than 20%), in addition to the ANSI/RMA allowances for pitch 13
diameter, center distance, and arc of contact. 14
15
Drives 1 horsepower and smaller may be provided with single standard V-belt. Drives 1-1/2 horsepower and 16
larger shall be provided with raw edge cogged V-belts, the number of belts necessary to transmit the 17
required power with 95% minimum efficiency, but in no case less than 2. 18
19
Exception: Belt drives for fans utilized as part of smoke control and/or smoke venting 20
systems shall be rated for the motor horsepower indicated on the Drawings, plus 50% 21
additional service factor, in addition to the ANSI/RMA allowances for pitch diameter, center 22
distance, and arc of contact, and shall have at least 2 belts. 23
24
Multiple belts shall be matched to ANSI/RMA specified limits by measurement on a belt measuring fixture. 25
Seal matched sets together to prevent mixing or partial loss of sets. Replacement, when necessary, shall be 26
an entire set of new matched belts. 27
28
Sheaves and pulleys shall be fixed pitch type, statically and dynamically balanced, and constructed as 29
follows: 30
31
Construction of pressed steel or close grained cast iron. 32
33
Bore shall be fixed or bushing type for securing to shaft with keys. 34
35
Groove spacing for driving and driven pulleys shall be the same. 36
37
Maximum belt speed shall not exceed 5000 feet per minute. 38
39
Minimum motor sheave diameter shall comply with ANSI/RMA recommendations as follows: 40
41
Shaft Couplings: Shaft couplings for direct drive equipment driven by polyphase motors shall be flexible type capable 42
of absorbing vibration, rated for the motor horsepower indicated on the Drawings plus an additional 50% service 43
factor. Couplings shall be drop-out type to allow disassembly and removal without removing equipment shaft or 44
motor. 45
46
Drive Guards: Drive guards shall be provided for belt drives and shaft couplings. 47
48
Belt guards shall comply with OSHA and SMACNA requirements of diamond-mesh wire screen welded to 49
steel angle frame or equivalent, prime coated. Secure to fan or fan supports without short circuiting vibration 50
isolation. Include provisions for adjustment of belt tension, lubrication, and use of tachometer with guard in 51
place. 52
53
Coupling guards shall be constructed steel and comply with ANSI B15.1, Section 8, and OSHA 1910.219. 54
Guards shall be easily removable for access and service and provided with openings for speed checks, etc. 55
without removal. 56
DocuSign Envelope ID: 7668B866-6C26-485C-9A45-DAAB5D4BD951
