ORANGE COUNTY 260533-3 <br /> <br />Emergency Management Warehouse Building Dehumidification Electrical Identification <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />All outlet boxes, junction boxes and pull boxes, either exposed or concealed, shall have their covers and 1 <br />exterior visible surfaces painted with the field colors described in this section. Boxes shall also be marked to 2 <br />indicate the panelboard and circuit number(s) of the circuits contained within. Lettering may be by hand for 3 <br />concealed or non-public locations only. Machine printed labels are to be used to identify boxes where such 4 <br />are permitted to appear in areas accessible by the public; embossed type plastic labels are not acceptable 5 <br />for use on this project. Where hand produced marking is permitted, the lettering shall be made with 6 <br />waterproof ink. 7 <br /> 8 <br />Equipment/System Identification: 9 <br /> 10 <br />General: Install an engraved plastic laminate sign on each major unit of electrical equipment on project. 11 <br />Such equipment includes central or master unit of each electrical system including communication, control, 12 <br />and signal systems, unless unit is specified with its own self-explanatory identification. Except as otherwise 13 <br />indicated, provide single line of text, 1/2" high lettering, on 1-1/2" high sign (2" high where 2 lines are 14 <br />required), white lettering in field color as indicated below. Provide text matching terminology and numbering 15 <br />of the Contract Documents and shop drawings. 16 <br /> 17 <br />Field Colors shall be the following: 18 <br /> 19 <br />Black Normal Electrical System 20 <br />Provide Signs for Each Unit of the Following Categories of Electrical Work: 21 <br /> 22 <br />Panelboards, electrical cabinets and/or enclosures 23 <br />Disconnect or safety switches 24 <br /> 25 <br />Service Equipment: 26 <br /> 27 <br />Where multiple services exist in a building provide a phenolic sign per NEC 230.2(E) at all service locations (new or 28 <br />existing). 29 <br /> 30 <br />Install signs at locations for best convenience of viewing without interference with operation and 31 <br />maintenance of equipment. Secure signs to substrate with fasteners, except use adhesive where fasteners 32 <br />should not or cannot penetrate substrate. 33 <br /> 34 <br />Cable/Conductor Identification (Low Voltage): 35 <br /> 36 <br />General: Apply cable/conductor identification, including feeder number, on each cable/conductor in each 37 <br />box/enclosure/cabinet where wires of more than one circuit or communication/signal system are present, 38 <br />except where another form of identification (such as color-coded conductors) is provided. Match 39 <br />identification with marking system used in panelboards, shop drawings, contract documents, and similar 40 <br />previously established identification for project's electrical work. 41 <br /> 42 <br />Match identification with marking system used elsewhere in the Contract Documents. Identification means 43 <br />used on high voltage cables shall be waterproof and shall not deteriorate when used in a wet environment. 44 <br /> 45 <br />Optional Identification and Warnings: 46 <br /> 47 <br />General: Install self adhesive plastic signs or similar equivalent identification wherever reasonably required 48 <br />to prevent misuse by unauthorized personnel or to ensure safe and efficient operation and maintenance of 49 <br />electrical systems, electrically connected mechanical systems, and general systems and equipment. Install 50 <br />self-adhesive plastic signs or similar equivalent identification giving instruction or warnings on switches, 51 <br />outlets, controls, or devices where instructions or explanations are needed.
