ORANGE COUNTY 230719-3

Emergency Management Warehouse Building Dehumidification HVAC Piping Insulation

Install insulation continuously through hangers and around anchor attachments: 1
2
At pipe hangers and supports, protect the insulation from compression as follows: 3
4
Piping Classification Type 1A, 2, and 3 shall be insulated with cellular glass piping insulation for the 5
length of the insulation shield specified in Section 230529. Insulation vapor barrier shall be lapped 6
and sealed in accordance with manufacturer’s instructions to maintain continuous vapor barrier 7
integrity. 8
9
Piping Classification Type 1B, 1C, and/or 1D shall have piping insulation and jacket cut to butt the 10
piping saddle specified in Section 230529. Saddle shall rest directly on the hanger. 11
12
Install insert materials and install insulation to tightly join the insert. Seal insulation to insulation inserts with 13
adhesive or sealing compound recommended by insulation material manufacturer. 14
15
Cover inserts with jacket material matching adjacent pipe insulation. Install shields over jacket, arranged to 16
protect jacket from tear or puncture by hanger, support, and shield. 17
18
For insulation application where vapor barriers are indicated, extend insulation on anchor legs from point of 19
attachment to supported item to point of attachment to structure. Taper and seal ends at attachment to 20
structure with vapor-barrier mastic. 21
22
Apply adhesives, mastics, and sealants at manufacturer's recommended coverage rate and wet and dry film 23
thicknesses. 24
25
Install insulation with factory-applied jackets as follows: 26
27
Draw jacket tight and smooth. 28
29
Cover circumferential joints with 3-inch-wide strips, of same material as insulation jacket. 30
31
Secure strips with adhesive and outward clinching staples along both edges of strip, spaced 4 inches o.c. 32
33
Overlap jacket longitudinal seams at least 1-1/2 inches. Install insulation with longitudinal seams at bottom 34
of pipe. Clean and dry surface to receive self-sealing lap. Staple laps with outward clinching staples along 35
edge at 2 inches o.c. 36
37
For below-ambient services, apply vapor-barrier mastic over staples. 38
39
Cover joints and seams with tape, according to insulation material manufacturer's written instructions, to 40
maintain vapor seal. 41
42
Where vapor barriers are indicated, apply vapor-barrier mastic on seams and joints and at ends adjacent to 43
pipe flanges and fittings. 44
45
Cut insulation in a manner to avoid compressing insulation more than 75 percent of its nominal thickness. 46
47
Finish installation with systems at operating conditions. Repair joint separations and cracking due to thermal 48
movement. 49
50
Repair damaged insulation facings by applying same facing material over damaged areas. Extend patches at least 4 51
inches beyond damaged areas. Adhere, staple, and seal patches similar to butt joints. 52
53
Outdoor piping shall be covered by vapor barrier and exterior (weatherproofing) jacket as soon as possible after the 54
insulation has been installed. All polyisocyanurate and/or polystyrene materials applied in one day shall have their 55
vapor barrier installed the same day. Any exposed insulation shall be temporarily protected with a combination 56
moisture and UV barrier (such as 6 mil black polyethylene film) to keep out moisture. Mastics shall not be applied 57
with the ambient air temperature is below 40 F or is expected to be below 40 F within 24 hours of the application. 58
59
60
DocuSign Envelope ID: 7668B866-6C26-485C-9A45-DAAB5D4BD951
