ORANGE COUNTY 019916 - 3 <br /> <br />Emergency Management Warehouse Building Dehumidification Divisions 23 and 26 <br /> Work in Existing Buildings <br /> <br /> <br />GENERAL CONSTRUCTION DEMOLITION 1 <br /> 2 <br />Demolish and remove existing construction only to the extent required by new construction and as indicated. Use 3 <br />methods required to complete the Work within limitations of governing regulations and as follows: 4 <br /> 5 <br />Neatly cut openings and holes plumb, square, and true to dimensions required. Use cutting methods least likely to 6 <br />damage construction to remain or adjoining construction. Use hand tools or small power tools designed for sawing or 7 <br />grinding, not hammering and chopping, to minimize disturbance of adjacent surfaces. Temporarily cover openings to 8 <br />remain. 9 <br /> 10 <br />Cut or drill from the exposed or finished side into concealed surfaces to avoid marring existing finished surfaces. 11 <br /> 12 <br />Do not use cutting torches until work area is cleared of flammable materials. At concealed spaces, such as duct and 13 <br />pipe interiors, verify condition and contents of hidden space before starting flame-cutting operations. Maintain fire 14 <br />watch and/or portable fire-suppression devices, as required, during flame-cutting operations. 15 <br /> 16 <br />Maintain adequate ventilation when using cutting torches. 17 <br /> 18 <br />Remove decayed, vermin-infested, or otherwise dangerous or unsuitable materials and promptly dispose of off-site. 19 <br /> 20 <br />Remove structural framing members and lower to ground by method suitable to avoid free fall and to prevent ground 21 <br />impact or dust generation. 22 <br /> 23 <br />Locate selective demolition equipment and remove debris and materials so as not to impose excessive loads on 24 <br />supporting walls, floors, or framing. 25 <br /> 26 <br />Dispose of demolished items and materials promptly. 27 <br /> 28 <br />Protect construction indicated to remain against damage and soiling during demolition. 29 <br /> 30 <br /> 31 <br />MECHANICAL DEMOLITION 32 <br /> 33 <br />Remove or relocate all mechanical elements (devices, fixtures, controls, etc.) from walls or floors indicated as being 34 <br />demolished. 35 <br /> 36 <br />Thermostats and sensors containing mercury shall be disposed in accordance with EPA Resource Conservation and 37 <br />Recovery Act (RCRA). Contractor shall refer to EPA web site for handling procedures for disposal and spill 38 <br />management of projects containing mercury. 39 <br /> 40 <br />Extend or relocate any existing piping and or ductwork serving existing equipment to remain or other items where 41 <br />such circuits are disrupted due to demolition. 42 <br />Remove all abandoned piping back to the point of supply or back to the point where other remaining piping is 43 <br />connected. For existing piping imbedded existing walls or floors that are not to be demolished, remove piping to 44 <br />behind finish surface, cap, and patch wall or floor as specified hereinafter. 45 <br /> 46 <br />Existing HVAC systems serving both occupied areas and construction areas shall be modified as required to isolate 47 <br />the construction area. Ducts shall be sealed by closing dampers, disconnecting ducts and sealing openings with 6-48 <br />mil polyvinyl sheeting, etc. 49 <br /> 50 <br />HVAC equipment in construction areas that is required to be reused shall be de-energized and protected from 51 <br />construction dust and debris with 6-mil polyvinyl sheeting during construction. HVAC systems that are modified 52 <br />during renovation shall be sealed until modifications are made and then resealed until start-up is required. After 53 <br />unsealing of equipment, coils and drain pans of air-handling equipment shall be cleaned. 54 <br /> 55 <br />Recover and recycle refrigerants from existing equipment to be demolished. All demolition work of existing systems 56 <br />containing refrigerant must be conducted in accordance with Section 608 of EPA Clean Air Act under supervision of 57 <br />an EPA certified technician.
