30 <br /> Commissioner Greene said there is a debate in the housing community over the term <br /> work force housing. She said that it might be easier to say subsidized vs. unsubsidized. <br /> Chair Price said the definition and use of terms varies depending on the circle its being <br /> discussed in. She said she imagines that all the terms will continue to be more narrowly <br /> defined. <br /> Bonnie Hauser said that she wanted to encourage teacher housing. She said some <br /> turnover is occurring due to teachers not being able to afford to live in Orange County. She <br /> suggested assistance for first time home buyers. <br /> Board Member Will Atherton said the Schools Adequate Public Facilities Ordinance <br /> (SAPFO) is still important and needs to be updated. He expressed thanks to the county for <br /> making the Whitted Building available for board of education meetings and would like for this to <br /> be a long-term partnership. <br /> Board Member Hillary Mackenzie invited the commissioners to do a safety walkthrough <br /> of Orange County Schools. <br /> Board Member George Griffin said between the three organizations, they touch the lives <br /> of every single person in Orange County. He said regarding the strategic plan in Chapel Hill <br /> Carrboro City Schools, they've begun using language about being innovative and creative and <br /> taking risks. He said the language must infuse what they do, so they do not let the past push <br /> them in the same direction. He said without clear focus they will just keep doing the same <br /> things. <br /> Board Member Riza Jenkins said that her district has been having intentional and <br /> challenging conversations. She said that the next time they come before the Orange County <br /> Board of Commissioners, the presentation will be a prelude to a bigger budget discussion. She <br /> said she loved hearing the presentations and looks forward to future meetings. <br /> Board Member Brenda Stephens said Orange County Schools has mentioned building <br /> teacher housing on school property. <br /> Chair Carrie Doyle thanked everyone for their comments. <br /> Dr. Felder thanked everyone for their support. <br /> Commissioner Bedford thanked the school district board chairs for their assistance. <br /> A motion was made by Chair Price, seconded by Commissioner Hamilton, to adjourn the <br /> meeting at 10:13 p.m. <br /> Roll call ensued <br /> VOTE: UNANMIOUS <br /> Renee Price, Chair <br /> Laura Jensen <br /> Clerk to the Board <br /> Submitted for approval by Laura Jensen, Clerk to the Board. <br />
