30 <br /> 1 Commissioner Greene said there is a debate in the housing community over the term <br /> 2 work force housing. She said that it might be easier to say subsidized vs. unsubsidized. <br /> 3 Chair Price said the definition and use of terms varies depending on the circle its being <br /> 4 discussed in. She said she imagines that all the terms will continue to be more narrowly defined. <br /> 5 Bonnie Hauser said that she wanted to encourage teacher housing. She said some <br /> 6 turnover is occurring due to teachers not being able to afford to live in Orange County. She <br /> 7 suggested assistance for first time home buyers. <br /> 8 Board Member Will Atherton said the Schools Adequate Public Facilities Ordinance <br /> 9 (SAPFO) is still important and needs to be updated. He expressed thanks to the county for <br /> 10 making the Whitted Building available for board of education meetings and would like for this to <br /> 11 be a long-term partnership. <br /> 12 Board Member Hillary Mackenzie invited the commissioners to do a safety walkthrough <br /> 13 of Orange County Schools. <br /> 14 Board Member George Griffin said between the three organizations, they touch the lives <br /> 15 of every single person in Orange County. He said regarding the strategic plan in Chapel Hill <br /> 16 Carrboro City Schools, they've begun using language about being innovative and creative and <br /> 17 taking risks. He said the language must infuse what they do, so they do not let the past push <br /> 18 them in the same direction. He said without clear focus they will just keep doing the same <br /> 19 things. <br /> 20 Board Member Riza Jenkins said that her district has been having intentional and <br /> 21 challenging conversations. She said that the next time they come before the Orange County <br /> 22 Board of Commissioners, the presentation will be a prelude to a bigger budget discussion. She <br /> 23 said she loved hearing the presentations and looks forward to future meetings. <br /> 24 Board Member Brenda Stephens said Orange County Schools has mentioned building <br /> 25 teacher housing on school property. <br /> 26 Chair Carrie Doyle thanked everyone for their comments. <br /> 27 Dr. Felder thanked everyone for their support. <br /> 28 Commissioner Bedford thanked the school district board chairs for their assistance. <br /> 29 <br /> 30 A motion was made by Chair Price, seconded by Commissioner Hamilton, to adjourn the <br /> 31 meeting at 10:13 p.m. <br /> 32 <br /> 33 Roll call ensued <br /> 34 <br /> 35 VOTE: UNANMIOUS <br /> 36 <br /> 37 <br /> 38 Renee Price, Chair <br /> 39 <br /> 40 <br /> 41 Laura Jensen <br /> 42 Clerk to the Board <br /> 43 <br /> 44 Submitted for approval by Laura Jensen, Clerk to the Board. <br />
