Gayle Wilson.968-2885 <br /> TELEPHONE NUMBERS: <br /> Hillsbarough 7324181 <br /> Chapel Hill 9684501 <br /> Durham 688-7331 <br /> Mebane 3384E27-2031 <br /> PURPOSE: To approve an agreement with a surveying firm to conduct aerial photography and <br /> to produce an updated topographic map of Orange County landfill property. <br /> BACKGROUND: Suttes Surveying, P.A. (Suttles) prepared a topographic map of fie landfill in <br /> January 1997 for planning of future facili0es and landfill cells. As pad of the mapping process, <br /> Suttles installed and located aerial targets for use during the surveying activity. Since January <br /> 1 i there have been numerous physical changes to Orange County landfill property, such as <br /> • phases 3 and 4 of the lined mixed solid waste landfill have been constructed <br /> • soil has been removed for landfill daily cover material from the Neville property <br /> • a recycling pad has been constructed on the former Johnson property <br /> • various areas of the landfill have been altered by various cut and fill activities <br /> • a maintenance facility has been constructed on the former Johnson papers <br /> Given these physical changes, it is important to obtain updated aerial photography and an <br /> updated topographic map of landfill property, includ In9 the Neville Tract, former Johnson <br /> property,and the properties identified for new construction and demoltion landfill adjacent <br /> to the existing landfill. <br /> Among other uses, the map will support sound engineering calculations of <br /> • the remaining capacity of the existing municipal solid waste landfill <br /> • the remaining capacity of the construction and demolition landfill <br /> • the remaining on-sde soil available for daily intermediate and final cover <br /> • the settlement rate of the closed landfill <br /> The topographic map will also assist solid waste staff in future planning end designing of the <br /> new construction and demolition landfill,transfer station, and departmental administrative <br /> offices <br /> FINANCIAL IMPACT: This activity was planned and funds an pay for it were programmed in the <br /> Solid Waste Management Departmental budget for FY 2001-02. The mapping will cast$4999. <br />
