P a g e 11 of 12

24. Please describe any avoided financial costs or savings related to the project and over what period of
time those costs will be avoided/reduced.

We have not identified any avoided financial costs or savings; however, it is possible that a portion
of these trees could provide shade to buildings which reduce their cooling load and thereby
reduce costs.

25. Does your project accelerate or expand on existing programs that already show positive impact?

Yes, the Town has recently started a tree planting program in FY20 and this grant would help
further the work of the program. The existing project has a goal of planting 200 large trees per
year and more than 40 large trees have already been planted, with another 10-15 planned for the
fall.

26. Does your project also take advantage of other funding sources?

Yes. The project is funded through a combination of grants, donations and modest annual budget
that covers tree replacements.

27. Would your proposed project help you to take advantage of funding from other sources besides this
grant in the future?

Similar to other projects we’ve described above, this project could help us move closer to our
annual goal and serve as an example of grant-supported work.

28. Please describe any other aspect of your project that is relevant to the efficient use of grant funds.

Capacity of Applicant

29. Please describe any projects that you have completed successfully in the past which are similar to
the project you are proposing.

This spring, with grant funding we purchased and planted over 40 trees across five public housing
neighborhoods in Chapel Hill. This fall, with a generous private donation, we are planting an
additional 25 trees downtown and along the Lower Booker Creek Trail. These fall plantings will be
part of the Town’s annual Arbor Day and Week celebration in November.

30. If you are proposing to collaborate with other organizations on this project, please briefly describe
their relevant experience to the project and/or the target population.

N/A

31. Please describe any other relevant expertise or capacity to carry out the project in your application.

DocuSign Envelope ID: 8858BEA8-FD65-4E72-A32A-868C9BDDE075
